Working from Home Safely

With a world population of about 7.7 billion, we now have a global average consumption of primary energy of 58 kWh per day per person.
Factor in this unprecedented pandemic, which has left many of us working remotely from home, running home-based SMEs, or home-schooling our children. Many have all three and it takes a lot of energy, and a lot of electricity!

And when you further factor in that electrical fires top the list of structural infernos, it’s time to keep some tips on hand:

  • Don’t overwhelm power outlets. We all love power boards and extension cords but avoid connecting so many appliances and gadgets at the same time.
  • Match bulb outlets to appropriate wattage.
  • Charge your items on non-flammable surfaces and away from wet surfaces. Keep an eye on that drink when sipping at your desk.
  • Avoid charging laptops and phones overnight, as they risk being overcharged.
  • Turn off switches when not in use.
  • Keep your workplace tidy. Loose cables can trip you.

As your trusted electrical service provider, we hope you consider some of these tips for your own safety and wellbeing.
Electricity is a fundamental need and without it, we would all still be literally in the dark ages.
