Rejoicing the journey of an iconic Fijian electrical solutions provider

SEL

As we commemorate Fiji’s 50th independence anniversary this week, it is an opportune moment to reflect and showcase the journey of Sigatoka Electric 51 years of existence in Fiji. A resilient business venture since Fiji gaining its independence. Since it’s mere establishment in 1969 by a visionary young gentleman. SEL has now transformed into a dynamic business venture and has become truly “Your Best Choice in Electrical”.

Among the testimonials highlighted on the website of Sigatoka Electric the following is clearly reflective of the dynamic leadership that has led to successful execution of several projects in different industries around Fiji and South Pacific.

“Sigatoka Electric provided an array of alternatives for the event to choose for the provision of power to their clients which culminated in a successful tournament. They have a variety of power generating equipment plus a set of multi-skilled personnel who executed everything that came their way”: Darren Burgess, Event and Operations Manager, PGA Fiji International Golf.
The initial vision of founder/chairman, Mr. Gopal Krishna to provide professional electrical services to residents, commercial enterprises and resorts of the growing coastal township of Sigatoka. The vision has evolved overtime and “Sigatoka Electric is an iconic and leading company for your first choice in electrical designers, air conditioning, contractors, wholesalers and retailers in Fiji”.

Being an iconic company harnessing 9 pillars of corporate values can certainly be demanding and challenging as reflected in the journey below:

The journey commenced with only two staff members and a bicycle to transport all electrical services. Sigatoka Electric now employs more than 150 staffs. The slogan of Sigatoka Electric Limited “Your Best Choice in Electrical’’ branding eventuated with the opening of the outlet in Suva. Since television was the most effective mode to reach out to a wider range of audience, SEL was the first local electrical company to be featured on television to elevate its strategic branding across Fiji and the Pacific. With the opening of the Nakasi branch in 2018, SEL has certainly gained access to wider customer base in the wider Suva-Nausori corridor. With the head office based in Sigatoka, the managing director Mr Vijay Narayan and senior management look after the entire operation and targeting customers throughout the country including the outer islands from flagship store locations at Sigatoka, Nadi, Suva and Nakasi.

Sigatoka Electric’s success is a direct result of the high level of customer satisfaction that has been achieved over the 51 years of business. Innovative solutions and maintaining relationships with clients & customers every step of the way has been one of the driving factors for the continued success of this business venture. SEL has to date 12 awards and one of the highlights is winning the Fiji Business Excellence Award – Commitment in Business Excellence in 2017. The award was clearly a reflection of the highest corporate standards displayed by the competent staff who ensure that quality and professional workmanship is displayed at all times.

Sigatoka Electric Limited remains a distributor for several leading brands of electrical products, accessories, light fittings and equipment in Fiji and the management takes pride in ensuring that the objectives of its suppliers are always met in the marketing of these products in Fiji. As an electrical contractor of choice for Fiji’s major commercial enterprises, SEL distributes and exclusively supplies leading electrical brands while providing contractual electrical maintenance and supply services for major resorts and hotels in Fiji. SEL sources materials from renowned suppliers in overseas, primarily from Australia and New Zealand so that they are able to deliver the best products & service.

Light Up Your Diwali: Energy-Efficient Lighting Tips from Sigatoka Electric

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time to bring joy and brightness into our homes and communities. While the traditional glow of diyas is central to the celebrations, modern lighting solutions can enhance your Diwali décor while also helping you save energy.

At Sigatoka Electric, we offer a range of lighting solutions from trusted brands like Ledvance, Mercator, Oriel, Pierlite, Havit, Caribou, and Cougar to help you light up your home more efficiently this festive season. Here are some energy-saving lighting tips to make your Diwali brighter and greener.

1. Combine Traditional Diyas with Energy-Efficient LEDs

While oil-lit diyas create a beautiful ambiance, you can complement them with modern LED lights to add a festive glow. LEDs are known for their energy efficiency, using up to 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. Strategically placing LED string lights, lanterns, or outdoor floodlights around your home will not only enhance the festive look but also keep your energy consumption in check.

2. Use LED Lights for Long-Lasting, Cost-Effective Lighting

LED lights have a longer lifespan compared to traditional lighting options, making them ideal for long nights of Diwali celebrations. They consume less power, generate less heat, and provide consistent lighting, ensuring your home remains brightly lit without causing a spike in your electricity bill. Brands like Ledvance and Mercator offer a variety of LED options suitable for indoor and outdoor use, so you can keep your home glowing all night without worry.

3. Opt for Solar-Powered or Battery-Operated Lights

To further reduce your carbon footprint, consider using solar-powered or battery-operated lights. Solar garden lights and lanterns are charged during the day and provide eco-friendly illumination at night. This not only saves on energy costs but also contributes to a greener environment. Many of the brands Sigatoka Electric offers, including Oriel and Cougar, have solar-powered lighting options that are perfect for outdoor decoration during Diwali.

4. Use Warm LED Lights for a Festive Ambiance

When selecting energy-efficient lighting, you don’t have to compromise on the warmth and charm of traditional Diwali lights. Warm-toned LED lights mimic the soft glow of candles and diyas, making them ideal for creating a cozy, festive atmosphere. Whether you’re decorating your living room, prayer area, or outdoor spaces, opt for LED lights with warm color temperatures to evoke the traditional spirit of Diwali.

10th Sheraton Golf Classic Tournament

Sigatoka Electric were proud sponsors of the 10th Sheraton Golf Classic Tournament held at two of Fijis renowned golf courses last month. The premier golfing event was played at Fiji’s international standard Golf courses – Denarau Golf and Racquet Club and Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course on July 7th to 11th.

The world class golf event fielded more than 200 golfers from Australia, New Zealand, US and Fiji and is recognized as being the largest International Pro – Am tournament in Fiji and the South Pacific. Recognized as a niche event in Fiji, the Golf Classics attracts international professional golfers with an increasing number of amateur golfers showing keen interest in the event.

Pacific Golf Management in New Zealand continued their long-term partnership with host Sheraton Fiji and with the tremendous support of local sponsors, successfully staged a world class golfing event that offered more than $200,000 in professional and amateur prizes during the tournament.

The Sheraton Golf Classic is anticipated to be bigger and better next year.

Working from Home Safely

With a world population of about 7.7 billion, we now have a global average consumption of primary energy of 58 kWh per day per person.
Factor in this unprecedented pandemic, which has left many of us working remotely from home, running home-based SMEs, or home-schooling our children. Many have all three and it takes a lot of energy, and a lot of electricity!

And when you further factor in that electrical fires top the list of structural infernos, it’s time to keep some tips on hand:

  • Don’t overwhelm power outlets. We all love power boards and extension cords but avoid connecting so many appliances and gadgets at the same time.
  • Match bulb outlets to appropriate wattage.
  • Charge your items on non-flammable surfaces and away from wet surfaces. Keep an eye on that drink when sipping at your desk.
  • Avoid charging laptops and phones overnight, as they risk being overcharged.
  • Turn off switches when not in use.
  • Keep your workplace tidy. Loose cables can trip you.

As your trusted electrical service provider, we hope you consider some of these tips for your own safety and wellbeing.
Electricity is a fundamental need and without it, we would all still be literally in the dark ages.

No electricity

Can you imagine life without electricity?

No electricity

It would be a world without all those lights, air-conditioning, gadgets, and all the appliances we power, consume, and use for conventional comforts.

This reliance means that we must look after our electrical systems at home and work and make diligent efforts to ensure they are in good shape.

Read our pointers for some electoral enlightenment on the perks of rewiring.

  • A good place to start is to consider the state of your property’s wiring system. Is it safe? Is it secure? Do you know when it was last serviced?
  •  If you have your property on the residential or commercial rental market, then the safety of your tenants are in your hands, and you have a duty of care to ensure minimum hazards and maximum safety of your infrastructure.
  •  Sometimes, you may be chewing more electricity than intended because of the way your property is wired. If you suspect so, give us a call for a speedy inspection and professional advice.
  •  Remember that Fiji has a destructive cyclone (and off-cyclone) season, so many buildings get damaged, altered and even destroyed by cyclones, flooding and landslides. If your property is on the radar and is impacted, get your electrical systems in order and consider a periodic check up with Sigatoka Electric.
  • If you want to renovate, then you will likely need extra wiring to cater for more electrical outlets and power sockets. Expanding your infrastructure also means expanding your electoral use.

These reminders are for you to reduce the risks of electrical faults and the consequent fires that destroy buildings and more sadly, take lives.

Live well, live safely.
